Due to the emergency of covid-19, the world is spurring more of private engagements other than crowd pulling ones. The rule of avoiding crowds has come into action even in the transport sector. Travelers are abandoning public means in favor of private ones. Car hire is now the real deal for most travelers due to its privacy and independence. Because car hire services are a new routine to travelers and most of them are first users, they don’t know the right requirements to go about them.

- Driver’s License: if you wish to book self drive car hire services, one of the requirements is presentation of your driver’s license. The driver’s license acts as proof that you are eligible and skilled to drive a car. The rental company normally requests to present the original copy at the pick up of the car and a photocopy is retained by them as you set off for your car rental trip. Note that without the driver’s license, no rental company will hire you a car.
- Identification Document: For one to trust you in any business transaction, you have to disclose who you are. The rental company must know the kind of person they are dealing with by knowing your nationality, place of residence and official name. - Insurance: The good thing, over time people have come to recognize the importance of insurance. It is rational for a traveler to protect him/herself against any liabilities during the trip. Ensure that you get a personal travel insurance that would cater for your belongings and health. More to that make sure that the rental company has comprehensive insurance for its vehicle. Insurance does not only keep your away from liabilities but also provides a peace of mind while traveling.
- Carry both cash and credit or Visa card: Uganda is mid way switching to electronic business transaction. Some businesses have adopted to electronic payments while others are comfortable with cash payment. It is advised for a traveler to carry both cash and and a payment card for the car rental trip. Some travel amenities like lodges encourage electronic payments while others are all round like rental companies. There are also those totally against it for example local food markets and remote craft shops where you will be required to use cash.
- Check the condition of the car: Before, you start off your car rental trip ensure that you check properly the physical and mechanical condition of the car. Physically check the scratches, dents and damages of any car area. Mechanically check the oil and water levels, the service and also test drive the car to ascertain if it will be able to complete the trip successfully.
