A complex skyway with five zip lines that cover the entire park and even crossing the River Musamya. From high up in the canopy, one can enjoy the animal population of the park that includes African fish eagles, palm nut vultures and red-tailed monkeys. You will also get to behold the breathtaking Griffin Falls.
After about an hour’s hike through Mabira Forest, while passing the popular 22 kilometer red-tail that ends at the Namusa Hill, you will reach the place where zip lining is conducted. The Mabira Forest Canopy Skyway is a breathtaking zip-lining system above the canopies of the ancient Mabira Forest, next to the famous Mabira Forest Camp.
This activity starts by climbing a tall Kirundu tree with the help of spikes till the first platform positioned at 18 meters above sea level, which is the zip-lining starting point. After that, the gear strap is connected around your body then to the Zip-line trolley with a black strap and onto the Cable. You will be asked to wear a helmet to protect the head from the falling tree branches during zip-lining. You will cruise on two cables in distinct positions from the first cable to the second one on 30 meters and 40 meters diagonal zip-lines. After reaching the third tree, you will then disconnect the gear and climb down and that is the end of the body refreshing activity.
This adventurous activity is not for the faint hearted people but rather adventure enthusiasts. However the entire zip-lining system is conducted on International standards which include a harness with the capacity to lift someone as heavy as 250 kilograms/ tied to a safety line with a lock. This means that there is guarantee of safety during zip-lining. Nevertheless, for safety reasons, the capacity is limited to 150 kilograms/ and so far, the heaviest person has weighed 125 kilograms. The Mabira Super skyway was designed and certified by the Uganda Engineers registration Board and is insured by the National Insurance Corporation (NIC).
The Mabira Forest Camp is situated at 44 kilometers East of Kampala City, on the Kampala-Jinja highway outside of Lugazi Town as you reach the Griffin Falls Camp. While on this eye-popping zip-line, you will relish the breathtaking view of the Forest Canopies, encounter several primate species such as the red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, and the Grey-cheeked Mangabey and outstanding bird species such as the African Pied Hornbill, African Fish eagles, Palm-nut vultures, Black- casqued Hornbill, Jameson’s wattle eyes, Speckled Yellow-billed Barbet, Speckled Tinkerbird, Great blue Turacos, Purple-throated cuckoo shrikes, Afep Pigeon as well as the magnificent Griffin waterfalls found on River Musamya.
Zip-lining within Mabira Forest Canopies is conducted from 8 am to 1pm then from 2pm to 6pm every day. There is no experience within Mabira Forest as fascinating as the Zip-lining adventure.
Cost of a zip-lining package
This interesting activity costs only $50 per person or the equivalent in Uganda Shillings for zip-line for non-Ugandans only.
Zip-line for Ugandans only costs Shs 60,000 per person.
Tourists can also opt for the $80 per person package (or the equivalent in Uganda Shillings) and includes the Zip-line activity, nature walks, coffee, lunch and a shuttle to transfer you to and from Jinja (with a minimum group size of 3 persons).
Another option is that of $100 per person that includes the Zip-line, nature walk, coffee, lunch and a shuttle you to and from Kampala (also a minimum group size of 3 persons).
