Buganda and Busoga Unite to Boost Local Tourism
In joint effort to promote local tourism and preserve Uganda’s rich cultural heritage, the Buganda Kingdom, Busoga Kingdom, and the Ministry of Tourism have launched an inspiring initiative. The campaign, titled “History and Heritage – Uganda,” aims to celebrate the country’s diverse traditions while encouraging domestic tourism.
The campaign was officially unveiled at the Ewaffe Cultural Centre in Naggalama, Mukono District. Organized by Top Cloud Rwenzori Adventures Limited, the initiative seeks to showcase Uganda’s cultural treasures and inspire communities to protect and celebrate their heritage.
Importance of Preserving Land and Culture
Speaking at the launch, Godfrey Luyombya, representing Buganda’s Minister for Culture, Traditional Affairs, and Tourism, Anthony Wamala, emphasized the critical role of land preservation in maintaining cultural heritage.
“Let’s learn to preserve the land with its hills, rocks, trees, and wells that have existed for generations. This is how we will bolster local tourism,” Luyombya stated, urging Ugandans to protect their land for future generations.
Cultural Practices as Income Opportunities
Andrew Wansolo Kigenyi, Busoga Kingdom’s State Minister for Culture and Tourism, highlighted the importance of promoting cultural practices such as traditional marriage ceremonies, crafts, and heritage sites. These cultural elements, he noted, have significant potential to generate income and attract tourists.
Inspiring the Youth to Embrace Heritage
Ruth Michelle Bisoboka, Miss Tourism Buganda, called on young people to embrace cultural heritage and integrate it into their daily lives. She encouraged the youth to actively participate in promoting and preserving Uganda’s traditions to ensure they are passed on to future generations.
Showcasing Uganda’s Hidden Gems
Amon Baita, CEO of Top Cloud Rwenzori Adventures, explained that the campaign aims to uncover and highlight Uganda’s unique cultural attractions. He noted that local tourism not only provides visitors with unforgettable experiences but also contributes to the country’s economic growth.
“This partnership underscores the shared commitment to preserving Uganda’s rich heritage and revitalising local tourism, fostering economic growth and cultural pride,” Baita remarked.
Call to Celebrate and Preserve Uganda’s Heritage
The “History and Heritage – Uganda” campaign is a testament to the power of collaboration in preserving culture and promoting tourism. By inspiring communities to take pride in their traditions and encouraging domestic tourism, the initiative seeks to create a deeper appreciation for Uganda’s cultural diversity while driving economic development.
This campaign is a call to all Ugandans to celebrate their heritage, protect their cultural sites, and promote local tourism for a brighter future
