Mistakes to Avoid on Car Rental Trips in Uganda
When preparing to hire a car in Uganda, there are some important notice to consider for smooth running of car hire safari. Here below are some of the mistakes which need to be avoided on rental trips.
Avoid pulling the parking Peddle when the car when it is still moving. This may happen when someone is the rush, maybe she has forgotten something in the lodge among others. It is advisable to break the car slowly, stops moving and then pull the parking Peddle. On car hire trips such tips are very important.
Avoid leaving the car when the car mirrors are down after parking. This calls for thieves, baboons in some protected areas can enter and destroy some stuff left there. The car mirrors should be up properly when the car is parked
On car rental trips, avoid leaving valuables in the car. Things like cameras, laptops, Phones among other shouldn’t be left in the car. Some accommodations have safes for valuable materials it is necessary to inquire and get good information
With car hire safari, avoid putting or giving lifts to people you do not know. To enjoy the trip, always be careful with people you do not know.
Avoid throwing cabbage in the car and leftovers, this will bring many insects to feast on the leftovers. The car should be clean.
Do not drink and drive. This is very dangerous as it can cause many problems like accidents, getting dents on the car and bad driving.
On car rental trip, avoid driving at night, it so risky, even if you get a problem, rescue becomes tricky.
Avoid driving the car in 4×4 wheel drive all through the journeys, after going through the bad place you do engage it out.
Make sure the car is parked in the safe place. It can be a lodge, among others. In towns and cities there some places where parking is not allowed and those where it is allowed.
When driving in Uganda, like in cities or town, there is parking fee. you are supposed to pay when you park the car in some places or alongside roads. there is a small paper with the fee around the wipers, or you will see the parking attendants around.
Avoid driving a car without fuel, it will make the car to stop operating. This may happen in areas where there are no petrol stations up country. For long rentals in remote areas, visitors are advised to go with empty jerrycans to reserve fuel
Tips for Driving in Uganda
– In Uganda, when driving, keep on the left side of the road.
– Most steerings of the cars in Uganda are on the Right-hand side.
– Speed limit on high way is 80km per hour and in towns and centers 50km per hour, but there are different sighs on the road that show speed limits and others like zebra crossing. Visitors should obey them
– Traffic offers are on the road and can stop you to check on the car, driving license or when you have violated the road rules and regulations. If so, you will be given a fine to pay.
– Avoid driving a car not in proper mechanical condition, the car should have insurance, jack, wheel spanner, it should have good tires, the lights should be active among others.

– In national parks, the animals have the right of way
– Keep low speed in National Parks
– Do not exceed the capacity of the people in the car to avoid fines on the road.
– Make sure you have valid driving license and you have to be above 18 years.
– For safaris in Uganda, a 4×4 safari car is recommended.
– Always Park the car in a safe place
– Avoid leaving valuable things in the car
– Always lock the car for safety
– Always tie the seat belts when driving and seated in the car
– In case your trip involves crossing the border, make sure you all the paperwork for the car to cross.
– For cross border trips, make sure you obey all the driving rules in all the countries of your travel
– The driving license should be valid to drive on the road in Uganda.
